As the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic evolve we want to assure members that we have been staying up to date with the latest advice and guidance available from government.
NT Health recently provided a risk assessment tool for organisations that are planning gatherings of less than 500 people. We evaluated our upcoming events, including Hidden Valley crit training, track training at the velodrome and our scheduled races using this framework which suggested that they would be "low risk".
However, the club has taken a conservative view and elected to suspend all club events, effective immediately, until further notice.
We have not taken this decision lightly and regret the impact that this will have on our members who rely on DCC events to provide a competitive outlet or help with training to achieve your cycling goals.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all our members of the importance of keeping up to date with current advice regarding steps that should be taken to limit the spread of CVOID-19 in the community.
Further, Cycling Australia has issued some sport specific suggestions for riders to consider in the current environment:
- If riding two abreast, keep the maximum allowable gap of 1.5 metres between riders and a gap of at least 1.5m to the rider in front of you, including while stopped at intersections;
- Limiting groups or bunches to 10 or fewer riders;
- Ensuring all riders are self-sufficient in case of mechanical issues;
- At cafes, maintain appropriate social distancing and keep helmets, gloves and sunglasses away from tables.
This is a challenging time for individuals and organisations alike. Please do what you can to keep to keep yourself and your families well and lookout for those around you, both within the club and the broader community.
